BURLINGTON, ND, THIRTIES AND FORTIES

This is essentially the same webpage which was on Talkcity, and which is no longer available. As I stated there it is not intended as a history of Burlington, ND, but rather a compilation of some of my memories, some of the early stories and several pictures which I have in my possession. Some of this material was contained in a Centennial publication put out in 1983 which may still be available in the Burlington City offices. "The Mines" was written by my father George Johnson who is buried along with many of the family in the Johnson plat of the Burlington Cemetary. The adventures of James Johnson were extracted from speeches prepared by him or by his son Lyle Johnson. James was a prominent attorney in the area and involved in early North Dakota politics.

Another source of memorabilia is the Ward County Historical Society (http://www.co.ward.nd.us/historical/index.html),contained in the first Ward County Courthouse at the ND Fairgrounds in Minot. This building was moved to the fairgrounds from our farm where it had served for many years as a granary.
